Dear John - Today marks the grim milestone of 10 years of war in Syria. That’s 10 years of displaced children, fleeing from violence with their families. 10 years of missing out on an education. 10 years of struggling with mental health issues because they have seen things no child should. And yet children often demonstrate resilience in the face of these enormous challenges. When we help meet their needs in times of crisis, they can still have the futures they deserve. Congress can help by funding humanitarian programs for these children. Will you send a message to Congress urging them to help children impacted by war? Children like 7-year-old Lara* have grown up only knowing war. When she was just 4, she and her family fled their home in Idlib to escape violence. Now they live in a tent that doesn’t protect them from the cold in the winter or from the heat in the summer. Lara’s mom is worried about her mental health and well-being. Her parents are also concerned that without school, she’ll grow up unable to read. Thankfully, Save the Children provides education in the settlement where they’re living. Because of that education, Lara has hope that she’ll reach her dream of becoming a teacher. School is a lifeline to children impacted by war. It provides a sense of normalcy, enables them to better cope with their experiences, and helps keep their education on track. It’s critical that children impacted by war receive the help they need – from an education to mental health support. Please join me in asking Congress to support vital humanitarian funding! Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
