Friend,

It’s been almost four months since voters, particularly voters from communities of color, delivered a monumental victory for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, along with a mandate for an inclusive, pro-immigrant America.

Since then, we’ve been in regular communication with the Biden administration, advocating for cabinet and staff-level appointees who will fight for immigrant-inclusive policies across federal agencies. As the administration continues to fill key roles, we know that the people serving in those roles will be instrumental in creating the change that puts us back on the path to being a beacon of hope for those seeking a better life.

We’re advocating for the administration to nominate leaders who recognize that immigrants are essential to our nation, and not just a policy problem to be solved. We’ve already successfully supported the confirmation of several appointees, including Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

But we’re not done yet. With several key positions still to be filled, the next two weeks will be critical in this effort. The longer cabinet nominees aren’t confirmed, the longer it will take to reverse the harms of the previous administration and move pro-immigrant policies forward. We still need your help to get the following nominees confirmed:

  • Deputy Labor Secretary: Julie Su
  • Secretary of Health and Human Services: Xavier Becerra
  • Associate Attorney General: Vanita Gupta
  • Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights: Kristen Clarke

That’s where you come in, Friend. Julie Su’s confirmation hearing is tomorrow, and it’s urgent that she be confirmed as the next deputy labor secretary. She has a long history of fighting for low-wage workers, regardless of their immigration status, and will promote equity, equal opportunities, and inclusion for all.

Friend, together, with each successful cabinet confirmation, we can ensure that immigrants and their loved ones have equal rights in the workplace as well as access to health care and due process.

Thank you for taking action to ensure that President Biden can fulfill the mandate of the voters who helped put him in office. Together, we can ensure that all of us have the freedom to thrive in this country we call home.

Sincerely,

Marielena Hincapié

Executive Director, National Immigration Law Center
