Hi John,
It has been a long and challenging couple of weeks, but we have officially passed the American Rescue Plan, and President Biden just signed it into law.
These kinds of omnibus packages can be quite long and complicated, so I wanted to lay out in a simple way what we ended up passing and what you can expect from the bill.
+ First and foremost, the Treasury Department will soon begin sending out direct payments to Americans earning up to $80,000 and couples earning up to $160,000
+ $300 weekly unemployment benefits will continue until September
+ Eligible families will be able to claim $3,000 in child tax credits -- $3,600 for children under 6
+ We have allocated $7.25 billion in paycheck protection for small businesses
+ Many low-income families will be able to receive assistance for home heating and cooling costs, rental assistance and supplemental nutrition
+ The CDC will get more than $55 billion to keep up vaccination and testing efforts
Here is the thing, John -- not a single Republican member voted for this bill, and they are falling over themselves to call this a “Democratic wish list,” forgetting that it has the American people's overwhelming support.
The fact is, the American Rescue Plan goes a very long way to keep women, children, and families afloat as this crisis continues. And it's now up to us to show we stand with it. Swing state support is crucial to keep the House able to pass bills like this one, as well as the Equality Act, For the People Act and Justice in Policing Act.
It happens that we have an FEC filing deadline coming up at the end of the month, and exceeding our goal for the quarter would be a great way to show Pennsylvania is behind President Biden's agenda. But my team tells me we have a $1,400 gap to make up by the end of the week. John, I know how important this is to you -- will you chip in $10, $25, or $50 today?
