I’m proud that I was born right here in New Mexico, on a small family farm in Nambé that I call home. My mom retired from the local public school district, my dad was a union ironworker, and they instilled in me a love for our communities.

Like so many of you, my family — mi familia — taught me early on the value of hard work and love for this land. We were raised to work with our hands, to follow our hearts, to take pride in the job.

Those same values I was raised with have shaped the ideals I fight for today, because the right to health care, education, justice, and equality should not be reserved for the wealthy few.

As a former Head Start kid, I know the importance of giving every child a strong start in life, which is why I fought to expand resources for our kids and lower the cost of education.

When my father got lung cancer, he was lucky to have health insurance in his final days because to many, a cancer diagnosis means bankruptcy or losing your home. That’s why I fought to defend the Affordable Care Act and protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

My mother was a trailblazer, and her example showed me the difference it makes for communities when women have a seat at the table. That’s why I’ve championed policies that improve equal pay, address violence against women, and strengthen reproductive freedom.

The American Dream should be available to all, which is why I’ve dedicated myself to improving people’s lives through public service. Today, I humbly ask for your support as we work to meet our mid-month goal and get back to the business of doing right by folks like you.

I’ve always said, New Mexico is worth fighting for. That’s why I work every day to lower prescription drug costs, help veterans in rural communities get the benefits they’ve earned, and protect the water that’s the lifeblood of our communities.

Please, join me in the fights ahead because this moment has found us and it requires us to act. Our lives depend on it, our rights depend on it, and our future depends on it.
