Good afternoon,

Join us tomorrow Tuesday 16th March at 6pm GMT for a timely discussion on policing and power.

While the Government's Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill (2021) makes its way through the House of Commons, we've seen heightened national attention on the safety of our streets and the relationship between the police and the policed. What does this Bill mean for police powers, public safety, and the right to protest, and how do we reconcile its contents with the events of the last week?

Police & Power

Tuesday, 16th March 2021 at 6.00pm UK time

The Government has recently proposed a new Bill covering "a wide range of community safety issues and seeks to introduce measures which aim to have an impact on victims of crime, those who perpetrate crimes, and wider community safety."

But detractors have said that the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill (2021), currently racing through the House of Commons, presents greater threats to human rights, increases police power, and decreases accountability.

And while this Bill makes its way through Parliament, we are seeing a surge in awareness of the safety of our streets, incidents of over-policing, and a breakdown of trust between the police and the policed.

Join us on Tuesday 16 March to discuss the Bill, its aims, potential for meaningful implementation, and attitudes towards policing.

Guests include:
Morgan Schondelmeier, Head of External Affairs, ASI (Host)
Hannah Al-Othman, The Sunday Times
Sam Ashworth-Hayes, Journalist & Economist
Final guest to be announced

Date: Tuesday, 16th March 2021
Time: 6.00pm - 7.00pm (UK time)

The webinar will begin at 6.00pm, with an audience Q&A session taking place at approximately 6.45pm. The webinar will conclude at 7.00pm.

I hope you can join us.

Best,

Morgan
