John,
To protect, serve and use the power given to you by the people to improve
their lives.
That is the goal of elected officials at all levels. But as we have often
seen, too many men use their positions of power to abuse, harass and
assault women.
Politicians like Andrew Cuomo contribute to the public’s diminishing trust
in the very people we should be able to count on to make our lives better.
Now while this isn’t an email about the abhorrent actions of Andrew Cuomo,
his actions do raise an important point about how much representation in
our democracy matters.
It is undeniable that we need more women in elected office.
Women like Maya Wiley, who is running for Mayor of New York City. Maya has
experience as a lifelong civil rights activist and lawyer and has always
used her political power to make life better for others. If elected, she
would be the first female mayor in New York City’s history. That’s right.
New York City has had 109 men, and zero women serve as mayor.
Maya Wiley chaired the Civilian Complaint Review Board that investigated
and prosecuted complaints of misconduct against the New York City Police
Department.
We have the opportunity to elect strong, powerful women that will use
their position in office for the benefit of all, but it will require all
of us to support these women.
Donate now to help elect Maya Wiley so we can usher in a new era that
unequivocally shows harassment will not be tolerated in New York City or
across America:

Maya’s experience shows that when we empower and elect women -- everyone
wins.
Thank you for helping us elect the first woman to Mayor of New York City.
