As we near the end of the year, I can’t help but reflect on all the amazing events FAMM has hosted so far. I’m grateful to people like you because your support made them possible.
• A standing-room-only briefing on Capitol Hill to discuss the need to reverse the Pell Grant ban and bring college funding back into our prisons
• A walking tour of Philadelphia’s drug-free school zones with Malcolm Jenkins of the Philadelphia Eagles and several members of the legislative Black Caucus
• Critical training to 200+ affected family members and advocates during our inaugural FAMMilies for Justice Reform conference
• Our #VisitAPrison campaign, which challenges federal and state policymakers to visit a prison or jail within 12 months
• Our "Beat the Heat" challenge, featuring an un-air conditioned mock prison cell in which attendees stayed for three minutes to better understand what those in Florida’s prisons endure every summer
• A probation reform advocacy day in the Pennsylvania Capitol to demonstrate support for pending probation reform legislation
These events help FAMM to expand our community, train impacted families to become advocates, and mobilize more people around sentencing and prison reform. Most of all, they make our issues real to lawmakers by showing the devastating effects of unjust sentencing laws and prison policies.
