The American Rescue Plan is one of the most significant, progressive relief plans ever passed in our country’s history, and it’s overwhelmingly popular with Americans. And yet, not a single Republican in the Senate or the House voted to support it. The struggle to pass COVID-19 relief confirms what many of us already knew: Republicans are planning to obstruct at every turn, so if we hope to get anything done going forward, we have to fix our broken Senate.

Here’s just the tip of the iceberg of what we could lose if we don’t abolish the filibuster: 

• Restoring and expanding voting rights through the John Lewis Voting Rights Act,
• Fighting voter suppression, gerrymandering, corruption, and money in politics with the For the People Act,
• Securing representation for D.C.’s 700,000+ residents with the D.C. statehood bill,
• Addressing the climate crisis and its consequences for the economy and racial justice through the THRIVE resolution,
• Raising the minimum wage to $15/hour,
• And much, much more.

Senate Democrats face a choice: either accept congressional gridlock where nothing gets done or do away with the filibuster in order to pass their priorities with a Democratic majority.

We’ve identified a few target states (Arizona, West Virginia, and Maine) where mobilizations are necessary to apply pressure on the moderate Senate Democrats and Independents who can get rid of the filibuster once and for all. We’ve budgeted $369,000 for tactics like ads, events, billboards, and more to pressure them. And that’s just half our total budget for our For the People Project -- nationally, we’re also funding staff expenses, digital infrastructure, ad campaigns, and everything else that keeps our work moving! 

We can’t do any of that work without funding, and your grassroots donations are what makes all possible.
