Good morning. Today would be a great day for Joe Biden to fire Social Security Administration Commissioner Andrew Saul and Deputy Commissioner David Black.
As Michael describes below, Saul & Black were behind the Trump Administration’s anti-Social Security rule changes, promoting deadly policies to close Social Security offices, make it harder for people to access their earned benefits, and make it easier to wrongly strip people of their Social Security disability benefits. They’ve got to go.

SSA Commissioner Andrew Saul is, in many ways, the Louis DeJoy of Social Security. Like Trump’s infamous Postmaster General, Saul has supported policies that slow down the operation of his agency, and in many cases seemed to undermine its very reason for existing. Unlike DeJoy, Joe Biden doesn’t have to deal with a captive board of governors to fire Andrew Saul.
Deputy Commissioner David Black is the ideologue behind some of Saul’s worst policies. Black helped design rules that would make it harder for people to access the benefits that they earned, and make it easier to wrongly strip people of their Social Security disability benefits.
Biden’s Presidency stopped these deadly rules from being implemented. But the architects remain―unless Joe Biden fires them.
The House and Senate Social Security subcommittee chairs have called for them to be fired. The staff unions that represent workers at the Social Security Administration have called for them to be fired. And Social Security Works has called for them to be fired… a lot. None of us are stopping until people who believe in Social Security are running the Social Security Administration.
