John,
Students all over the country are being forced to use a creepy spyware app called Proctorio. This spyware is racist and ableist, but the only internet browser it truly works with is Google Chrome. Proctorio is violating Google’s policy against spyware—so they need to enforce their own rules and ban Proctorio. Sign the petition to tell Google to remove Proctorio from its extensions:

Proctorio is an e-proctoring service used by thousands of students in the United States, from middle and high school to professional licensure tests. Proctorio collects tons of data1 by tracking keystrokes, going through device files, recording screen activity, using facial recognition,2 tracking eye and body movements,3 and more. It’s so horrible that Google actually hid Proctorio from the extension store, likely due to one star reviews—students have to go to a special website to download it.4
Surveillance does not stop cheating, and it does not make anyone safer. The illusion of control is tempting for education institutions struggling to adapt during the pandemic, but Proctorio’s racial and ableist discrimination harms countless students while invading the privacy of all.
E- proctoring must be banned, and Google has the power to end Proctorio immediately. This would be a huge win for students everywhere, who should not be forced to install spyware in order to complete their education.
Tell Google to remove Proctorio’s extension from Chrome immediately!
For the right to privacy,
The Team at Fight
