Happy daylight saving time!

Today, there's an extra spring in our steps because we will get an extra hour of daylight this evening. Doesn't that just make the corner of your mouth turn upward a bit?

I think it's time we make this change lasting. No more changing clocks. Never lose another hour of sleep. Just pass a bill and make it permanent.

There's research to back this idea up as well. Studies have shown it's good for our mental health, our economy, and our planet. We spend more time outside soaking in the sun, and we reduce our emissions by using less energy. It's an all-around win.

It's not the first time we've made a legislative change to daylight saving time either. I've twice pushed bipartisan bills through Congress. First, we added three weeks, and then in 2005, we added four and moved it to the beginning of March.

We went from closer to half of the year on daylight saving time up to about 8 months now. And for those 8 months a year, people across the country are happier, getting outside more, and taking in more sunshine. I say we make that permanent. What do you think?

Will you take my quick poll on whether or not you agree that daylight saving time should be permanent? I want to hear your feedback on this idea.

Thank you, and I hope you get outside to enjoy the sun today!
