Welcome to another edition of FT Now! It’s been another whirlwind week in the news, so let’s waste no time getting down to business! First up, in an opinion piece, Arizona Gov. Ducey outlined the damaging policies driving Californians away from their once-great state. Next, a new scandal is surrounding New York Gov. Cuomo, as it was revealed that the Governor directed homes for the disabled to accept COVID-positive patients. Finally, a prosecutor indicated that Gov. Whitmer is facing possible criminal charges for nursing home deaths in Michigan.

Leaving California? Don’t forget why
What Happened:
Gov. Ducey of Arizona urged Americans to recognize why people and businesses are fleeing California in droves.
Why You Should Care:
The Governor pointed to skyrocketing costs, crushing economic policies, and ineffective leadership as the reasons why California is a state in decline. While his home state of Arizona gained almost 130,000 residents last year, California lost nearly 70,000.
What Happens Next:
As long as California continues on its current path, businesses and residents will continue to flee in search of better opportunities. Conversely, more than 70% of adults in Arizona were born out-of-state.

Cuomo Faces Fresh Scandal Over Order Directing COVID Patients Into Homes For Disabled
What Happened:
Last year, Gov. Cuomo issued an order directing homes for people with developmental disabilities to accept COVID-patients (and the order still hasn’t been rescinded).
Why You Should Care:
The New York Office for People With Developmental Disabilities revealed that, out of 34,600 residents, 6,900 contracted COVID-19. 552 of those residents died from the virus.
What Happens Next:
Gov. Cuomo is surrounded by scandals, and many New York State lawmakers are calling for his impeachment over a growing number of sexual harassment allegations. It remains to be seen whether the Governor will be held accountable for his COVID-19 policies.

Prosecutor Indicates Criminal Charges Possible Against Gretchen Whitmer Over Nursing Home Deaths
What Happened:
A Michigan prosecutor has claimed that criminal charges may be coming against Gov. Whitmer for the impact her COVID-19 policies had on nursing home deaths in the state.
Why You Should Care:
Gov. Whitmer’s administration is barely releasing any information or data on the Governor’s COVID-19 policies, and has refused to answer any questions on nursing home deaths. This lack of transparency is troubling to many Michiganders in both the state government and the public.
What Happens Next:
Pressure is mounting for Gov. Whitmer, but more information needs to be released or uncovered before charges can be brought forward.
