Friends —
One year ago today, Minnesota’s Governor Walz declared a peacetime state of emergency. In the face of unimaginable loss, we have needed all our resilience.
I think all the time about something a Minnesota farmer said last year that really stuck with me. “With COVID,” he said, “We are all in the same storm but not all in the same boat.” He was right.
This pandemic has laid bare the inequities that existed before all this started. I’m determined that this public health and economic crisis will mobilize us all to action, to build a society that truly works for all of us, where everyone has the opportunity to build the lives they choose.
As I look forward, I do feel optimistic. The President has signed into law the American Rescue Plan, historic legislation that will do so much to get working families back on their feet. Every day we are making more progress on getting people vaccinated. And for those of us living in the north country, spring is just around the corner.
I’m looking forward to going to a ball game, gathering with friends, and seeing my Dad after a long, long time away. It’s hard not to feel optimistic, even though we still have a lot of work to do, and masks to wear, and care to take keeping socially distant while we still need to.
Speaking of work, we all know that a lot of our neighbors are struggling and working hard, so I hope you’ll join me in supporting an organization that is working around the clock to ensure no Minnesota family goes hungry during this crisis.
If you have anything to spare, can I count on you to add a donation to Second Harvest Heartland today? Your donation would help ensure this organization has the resources to keep folks nourished throughout this public health and economic crisis. Please, only give if you can.
I know these are difficult times for many of us, so if your family is facing financial hardship, it’s okay to sit this one out. I appreciate you opening this email in the first place and taking a minute to read my message. It means the world to me.
Take care of yourself and your loved ones. Thank you.
