March 11, 2020 was the day that marked the beginning of the new normal.
It was a Wednesday, and the World Health Organization had officially categorized COVID-19 as a pandemic. An NBA game was halted just before tip off, and some major public figures began sharing they had been infected by the virus.
In the one-year since, the losses we’ve suffered have been tremendous. New York City, especially NY-14, was hit first and worst – and our communities are still reeling today.
Many members of our community continue to face food insecurity, and Team AOC has invested in fundraising efforts and partnerships to support local organizations’ food distribution programs during COVID and beyond.
Last Saturday, Loving the Bronx, Giving Friends, and Team AOC joined forces to distribute 500 coats for children and over 200 bags of fresh produce and dry foods to Bronx families.
Through emails like this one, our campaign has raised over $1.25 million for mutual aid and other relief programs, and we need your help to continue to provide urgent relief to those in need.

Not only are we providing direct relief in our community, but Alexandria successfully lobbied and won funeral assistance so that families who’ve lost a loved one to the virus are eligible for reimbursement of up to $7,000 for the expenses of laying a loved one to rest.
