Hi there,

Deb Haaland now has enough support in the Senate for her confirmation, which means she's set to become the first Native American Cabinet secretary.

But getting confirmed is just the first battle. Serving as Secretary of the Interior involves overseeing federal lands -- the same lands that right-wing extremist militiamen have been attempting to occupy for years.

The federal government previously hesitated to confront these armed, extremist militiamen, but they're a continuously growing threat. One of them, a rancher named Cliven Bundy, has already warned that he and his allies will “walk towards guns” if the new administration attempts to collect long-overdue fees from them.

Armed militiamen like Bundy who have tried to illegally occupy federal lands have been a persistent problem, but the GOP has only further emboldened these right-wing extremists. Bundy even posted praise of the violent mob that attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6 on Facebook.

Our team at ASPIRE is working hard to support and defend women of color leaders like Haaland, and we're so glad to have supporters like you who have helped propel Haaland through the confirmation process.

But it's become increasingly difficult to keep up our work as more and more extremists are emboldened by the GOP's racist, white nationalist rhetoric. Our workload keeps growing while our fundraising keeps falling, and if we don't raise $3,267 by the end of the day, we might have to abandon our work.
