The smear campaign against Vanita Gupta is in full swing. This past week
during her Senate confirmation hearing, the Far Right tried to smear
Gupta’s exceptional record – deliberately misconstruing her past to fit
their deceitful narrative.

And unless we continue working in support of Vanita Gupta and push back on
these false narratives, the Far Right might succeed in derailing her
nomination.

Gupta was interrupted at least fifteen times by Republican Senators on the
committee. Whenever she described or was questioned about her past
experiences, her responses were mischaracterized with charged, offensive
descriptors and dismissals. To anyone watching it was clear that the
scrutiny and badgering she was experiencing were unlike that of President
Biden’s other nominees.

The decades of experience Gupta has had as a civil rights leader and at
the Justice Department defy the characterizations that the Far Right is
trying to sell to the public. We cannot allow this attempt to smear and
mischaracterize her exemplary career derail her confirmation.

Gupta will be a fierce champion for justice and will bring back
