Hello, Friends —

It’s been another busy week in the House. Sadly, like the rest of this Congress, it’s been another week when Republicans were given no input in the legislative process, and bills have been rammed through as quickly as possible, in order to limit debate and stifle dissent.

As I’ve said before, and I’m sure I’ll say again: so much for “unity.”

On Wednesday, March 10, the House passed H.R. 1319, which has since been signed into law by President Biden. In theory, this was supposedly a Covid relief bill; in reality, it was a wish-list of Democrat priorities. It offers stimulus payments to prisoners, it helps fund Planned Parenthood, it offers “environmental justice” grants, it bails out blue states, and more. It even punishes states that want to cut their citizens’ taxes.

If this bill had simply focused on Covid relief, it would have passed with a huge, bipartisan majority. Instead, like most other bills this Congress, it passed on a party-line vote.

Is it even fair to call it a “coronavirus relief” bill when over 90% of the bill has nothing to do with Covid-19?

On Wednesday evening, I appeared on Newsmax to talk about the incredible amounts of wasteful spending (and other problems) in the Covid relief bill. Watch it here:

DEMOCRATS TAKE AIM AT SECOND AMENDMENT

As a crisis amasses on our southern border, threatening the safety and security of every American, Speaker Pelosi chose this week to attack our Second Amendment. Democrats brought two oppressive gun control bills to the floor this week, once again bypassing the normal committee process.

I voted against both of the Democrats’ gun control bills, because law-abiding Americans should not be presumed guilty or suspicious merely because they are gun owners. The burdens House Democrats would impose on gun owners are neither rational nor constitutional. If Democrats are serious about curbing gun violence, they will join me in calling for an end to gun-free zones, which continue to be targeted by the deranged.

Two more bills with no mark-up and extremely limited debate; two more bills where Republican amendments were summarily rejected.

This is no way to govern.

CONSERVATORSHIPS AND #FREEBRITNEY

This week, my friend and colleague Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio and I sent a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, requesting a hearing on the important topic of conservatorship abuse — something brought to many people’s attention due to a recent documentary about Britney Spears and her struggles within the conservatorship system.

Conservatorships allow a person’s rights to be completely and totally stripped away from them. They are ripe for fraud and abuse, and have harmed countless people in Florida and across the United States.

On Tuesday night, I appeared on Fox News to discuss this topic with Shannon Bream and Mike Huckabee. Watch it here:

Congressman Matt Gaetz: THC caps would harm patients, discourage innovation

I like some caps: Welfare caps. Refugee admission caps. MAGA caps. THC caps are a different story. HB 1455, a misguided proposal to significantly lower the THC cap on medical cannabis, is currently making its way through the Florida Legislature. This bill would harm patients, discourage innovation and threaten liberty.

“There’s no science that suggests that these THC caps improve public health or public safety,” Rep. Gaetz of Florida told The News Station. “It’s just a way for Republicans to virtue signal against marijuana reform that is widely popular with people.”

The GOP exposes the Dems’ $1.9 trillion coronavirus bill

As Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) recently put it, the $1.9 trillion bill is a “Trojan Horse for socialism.” “It is everything Democrats have wanted wrapped and branded in coronavirus so that people are scared into voting for it,” he added.

Rep. Gaetz Says Focus on Conservatorship More Than ‘Free Britney’

Rep. Matt Gaetz, who, along with Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has gotten involved in the #FreeBritney movement in support of Britney Spears by writing a letter demanding a hearing from the House Judiciary Committee on the issue of court-ordered conservatorship, said Thursday their call is not just about the pop star’s legal difficulties, but about the overall situation on a national level.

Joe Biden Is The Commander In Hiding

At the Republican National Convention in August, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz’s speech foreshadowed what would become of the Biden presidency. “I’m speaking to you from an auditorium emptier than Joe Biden’s daily schedule,” Gaetz said. By this time, Trump’s coined “sleepy Joe” phrase to define Biden was a fan favorite for the conservative base.

It’s Time For The GOP to End Biden’s Capitol Occupation

The party should be using every obstructionist tactic available to demand the immediate removal of all troops from the U.S. Capitol, and the resumption of normal civilian government. Yet only a handful of Republicans are loudly saying what is obviously the case. One of them is Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida, who recently pointed out the truth of what the Capitol occupation has become.

Universities are ‘ground zero’ for human fetal tissue research, and taxpayers are footing the bill, new report finds

Campus Reform spoke with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) about animal tests using HFT. In 2019, Gaetz co-authored a letter of concern sent to the NIH asking for more transparency on the practice. “As a staunch pro-life advocate and animal welfare supporter, I’m disgusted that taxpayers are still being forced to pay for sick and twisted experiments in which human baby parts from elective abortions are crudely implanted into lab animals that are then also killed and dissected. These disturbing new revelations about NIH-funded human fetal tissue research on animals have bolstered my commitment to fighting against this unnecessary and inhumane practice that harms the most vulnerable among us in society,” Gaetz told Campus Reform.
