Friend —
A year ago today, three Louisville Metro police officers illegally broke into Breonna Taylor's home in the middle of the night, while she was asleep, and killed her. This devastating injustice is why we say Black Lives Matter, Say Her Name, and we Must Protect Black Women.
It's why hundreds and thousands of Americans continue to demand justice for Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Michael Brown, and Manuel Ellis. For Alberta Spruill, Rekia Boyd, Shantel Davis, Shelly Frey, Kayla Moore, Kyam Livingston, Miriam Carey, and far too many others.
There are Breonna Taylors everywhere. And behind every murder of an innocent Black American is a justice system that perpetually shields officers from accountability and the full force of the law.
We're gathering 5,000 signatures today, on the anniversary of Breonna's murder, to call on the Senate to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act without delay. Add your name right now to our petition: Tell Congress: "BRING THE GEORGE FLOYD JUSTICE IN POLICING ACT TO A VOTE!" »
No single piece of legislation can heal centuries of systemic racism and white supremacy, but the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is a great leap forward. It will BAN the no-knock warrants that led to Breonna's murder, ban chokeholds, require officers to wear body cameras, and address systemic racism and bias at the root to help save lives.
In a just world, Breonna would still be alive. So we will continue to fight — for Breonna and every other Black life lost at the hands of police brutality. Sign on now to demand the Senate take immediate action and pass these essential policing reforms.
Thank you,
