John, all of your hard work and support for expanded Brady Background Checks has paid off: This week, the U.S. House passed legislation to strengthen and expand Brady Background Checks to all gun sales with bipartisan support. This is a major accomplishment and more members of Congress are uniting for common-sense gun laws that the overwhelming majority of Americans support:
In fact, just this week, a new poll found that 84 percent of voters, including over three-quarters of Republicans, support a law requiring a background check for all firearm purchases.
This we know, John: Americans are united from coast to coast, liberal and conservative, young and old, fed up and fired up, to pass life-saving solutions to end our country’s scourge of gun violence. We elected gun safety majorities to the House, Senate, and White House, and we are demanding change. While we know our journey in the Senate will be difficult, we have a blueprint of success to follow: our namesakes, Jim and Sarah Brady.
They passed the Brady Bill in the Senate with unanimous bipartisan support. But Jim and Sarah were only able to achieve their life’s mission with the support from Brady grassroots activists and donors like you, John. Will you help us build bipartisan support by urging your senators to support legislation to strengthen and expand Brady Background Checks? We’ve seen that when constituents like you speak out, Congress listens! [[link removed]]

Nancy Dunning, the mother of Brady Vice President of Development Liz Dunning, would have turned 74 years old this week. In 2003, she was shot and killed when opening her front door. Today, Liz channels the pain from the loss of her mother into action by leading Brady as a gun violence survivor. Brady Helps Advance Safe Gun Storage Bill in Colorado
Gun sales in America have continued to hit record levels during the COVID-19 pandemic. With more guns in homes, we must make it a priority to practice safe gun storage. That's why Brady is actively working in Colorado to advocate for safe gun storage legislation, virtually!
This week, Colorado lawmakers advanced legislation that would require firearms to be securely stored in the home to the state Senate. Providing expert testimony was Brady Vice President of Organizing Maisha Fields. The bill would also require federally licensed gun dealers to provide locking devices when selling or transferring a firearm. Lawmakers also advanced legislation that would require gun owners to report a lost or stolen firearm, helping ensure those who intend to cause harm are not granted easy access to firearms.
We are proud to have testified in support of safe gun storage legislation that will make gun ownership safer. We’ll keep you up-to-date on our work in Colorado. In the meantime, learn more about how safe gun storage can save lives.
