Public Charge Goes to Court!

Dear Allies,

Last week, Cook County, IL and the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) filed a complaint against the Public Charge rule in the Northern District of Illinois. Now there are a total of 8 public charge cases across 5 jurisdictions.

This week, hearings on preliminary injunction motions begin in California and Washington. Join us to cheer on the attorneys, plaintiffs, “amici” (friends of the court who submitted briefs) and experts asking federal courts to block implementation of DHS’s public charge rule. A judge could rule on an injunction anytime after October 2nd and hopefully before October 15th, when the rule is scheduled to take effect.

Want more details on what’s happening with litigation efforts? Register for our webinar next Monday, October 7th at 1:00pm ET, 10:00am PT, titled "Taking Trump's Public Charge Rule to Court". On this PIF campaign webinar, we will be joined by attorneys and plaintiffs who will share information about cases filed across the country; the key claims; and possible outcomes and timing of the decisions.
