This last year proved why healthcare is a human right.

John -- It’s been one year since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. We at Brand New Congress are reflecting on the pain, grief, and loss of too many.

Over half a million people have lost their lives in America alone. Millions of working people lost their jobs with no safety net to help them stay afloat.  The food insecurity and houselessness that existed long before COVID have been exacerbated as more families are forced to choose between food and rent.

So while we commend Congress for passing the American Rescue Plan, this much needed and long overdue relief package should have been and could have been more substantial.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the last year is the abject failure of private insurance to meet the moment of a public health crisis. We have an urgent need for universal healthcare that is open to all and free at the point of service.

Health and wellbeing should not be a “pay-to-play” system. Healthcare must be treated as a human right in our country. That’s why every Brand New Congress representative is calling on Congress to pass Medicare for All.

Will you contribute $2 today to help us elect even more Medicare for All candidates in 2022?

As uninsured rates and costs for care continue to skyrocket, Medicare for All will leave no one behind, and will help protect millions of people in our most vulnerable communities -- the unhoused, the working poor, Black and Brown communities, indigenous people and immigrant communities.

For-profit healthcare is immoral, unconscionable and unsustainable. Let’s protect everyone by electing people who believe that healthcare is a human right.
