Representative Deb Haaland, Biden’s choice to lead the U.S. Department of the Interior, had her committee hearing this past week, and despite Republican Senators’ attempts to delay, the vote on her confirmation is expected to be held this coming Monday. But the Far Right spent her hearing trying to distort her activism on climate justice, and that’s why we need to ramp up support for her in advance of the final vote!
Haaland is the right person to lead the Interior Department, and we need every Senator to know this. We need to make Deb Haaland’s fight our fight.

The attacks on Haaland and her record during her hearing were part of a troubling trend on the Right to use lies and misinformation to prevent well-qualified leaders from being confirmed – particularly those who are women of color. In addition to the contentious questioning at her hearing in the Senate, Haaland has been faced with a Far Right smear campaign based on fake controversies and distortions of her words and past actions – such as accusing her of being a “radical” climate activist – in an attempt to sink her confirmation.
Haaland is uniquely qualified to lead the Interior Department at this critical time. For decades, the second-term House Representative from New Mexico has been fighting for climate justice, and she knows how to manage our natural resources while taking into account the implications for the communities that rely most heavily on them. And as a current member of the Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico, Haaland would be the first Indigenous person ever nominated to serve in the cabinet, which would be an amazing, history-making victory.
Because the Far Right has been spreading misinformation about Haaland’s record, your taking action to support her confirmation matters more than ever. Thank you for having her back!
