John,
Welcome to another installment of 21 to Watch in ‘21 – a biweekly series
where we spotlight and introduce you to some of the people and issues to
keep your eye on in the progressive movement this year.
Our third spotlight belongs to powerhouse Jennifer Carroll Foy, a former
member of the Virginia House of Delegates now running for governor of
Virginia. [ [link removed] ]DFA backed Jennifer’s first race in 2017 and we were thrilled
to be her first national endorsement in her campaign for governor.
Born and raised in Virginia, Jennifer is no stranger to the challenges
that the Commonwealth’s families are facing. An unrelenting champion for
progressive values, she devoted her time in the state legislature to
passing the long-overdue Equal Rights Amendment, defending reproductive
justice, and fighting for criminal justice reforms.
Jennifer is focused, battle-tested and determined; fearless in her pursuit
of delivering change for those that have already waited far too long. WHEN
she wins -- not IF -- she will be the first Black female governor in U.S.
history.
We’re all about being FIRST. Being first means you have bold actions to
back up your bold vision, and you are not afraid to blaze a trail.
We are SO EXCITED about Jennifer’s candidacy because she is simply
incredible.

Check out her entire interview [ [link removed] ]HERE and you will see why.
Please, join us in helping Virginia make history by splitting a
contribution between DFA and Jennifer’s team today. This is a
people-powered campaign and we can’t do it without you!
Check out a few highlights from her interview below:
[ [link removed] ]On the challenges that led her to public service
“My grandmother, who raised me – Mary Lee – had a stroke and became a
quadriplegic... [after that, we had to] decide if we were going to pay for
our mortgage that month or pay for the medications keeping my grandmother
alive. That is the moment my journey for governor began, the minute I
realized that I was a part of a community that had been ignored, neglected
and left behind.”
[ [link removed] ]On turning a campaign platform into reality
“I am the only person who's dedicated my entire life to service – as a
public defender, and a foster mom, and a community organizer – and I have
a record of getting things done... we're ready to move forward and not
back. We have to shake up the status quo in politics as usual, which has
oppressed so many people in Virginia, and that's why we need a new leader
with a clear vision and bold transformational ideas and solutions to move
us forward."
[ [link removed] ]On receiving DFA’s endorsement
“[Progressives] know that you will only endorse people whose values are in
line with yours, real people who care about helping real families in a
real way. . . And so I am just honored and totally blessed to have your
support and to have the endorsement of Democracy for America.”
Thank you for checking out Jennifer Caroll Foy in 21 to Watch in ‘21.
As you can see, a DFA endorsement is a coveted endorsement. It signals to
the electorate and the country that not only does our endorsed candidate
mean business for those they seek to serve, our candidates are in it to
win it.
[ [link removed] ]Now, can you chip in to show Jennifer you’re in it to win it with her?
Let’s make history in Virginia and also help deliver the best progressive
candidate to the people to serve as their next governor.
We run everywhere so we can win everywhere. That’s what we do.
