News from Representative Allred

March 12, 2021

Dear Friend,

The end of the pandemic is within sight but now is not the time to let up. I am writing to you today to urge you to continue to follow the guidance of our nation’s top infectious disease experts including continuing to wear a mask in public. I strongly disagree with Governor Abbott’s decision to lift the mask mandate just weeks before the COVID vaccine is widely available. Please take a moment to share your views on Governor Abbott’s actions.

Do you agree with Governor Abbott’s decision to lift the mask mandate?

Last night in his address to the nation, President Biden announced that he is directing all states to make every adult eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by May 1, moving the timeline up months earlier than anticipated. This is welcome news for all of us and critical to getting our businesses back open, children back in school and being able to gather with friends and family again. However, until we reach that point, we must continue to take our cues from our scientists and experts, and be careful not to undo the great work we’ve done in keeping each other safe.

This week, I was proud to help pass the American Rescue Plan which invests $20 billion in a coordinated, nationwide vaccine program to get shots in arms. It will ensure we have enough vaccines for all Americans, that we’re able to get those vaccines out to all Americans quickly and equitably through community vaccination centers, mobile vaccination units and more, and scale up testing and tracing. The American Rescue Plan also delivers financial relief for individuals, families, and small businesses, including an additional stimulus payment of $1,400 per person. If you would like to find out more about the American Rescue Plan, and where to get a COVID-19 vaccine, I’ve compiled a list of helpful coronavirus resources on my website: allred.house.gov/coronavirus

I applaud North Texans for doing their part and continuing to keep each other safe until we are through this pandemic. Hope is on the horizon. Please take a moment to weigh in on my survey question and join my newsletter list for more updates on coronavirus relief. It is an honor to serve North Texas, where I was born and raised.

Sincerely,
