Democrats delivered huge wins and real relief to Mainers and Americans this week.

Tuesday: Craig Hickman wins the SD-14 special election and becomes the first Black person to serve in both chambers of the Maine Legislature.

Wednesday: Congress passes the American Rescue Package, putting up to $1,400 checks into the pockets of 90% of Mainers, funding vaccination efforts, and lifting 10,000 Maine children out of poverty.

Thursday: President Biden announces that there will be enough vaccine supply by May 1 to make all American adults eligible to make an appointment.

Friday: Early in the morning, the Legislature was hard at work for Maine’s people passing a trio of vital measures:

1. A bipartisan supplemental budget that supports 160,000 Maine workers, over 28,000 Maine businesses, our veterans and direct care providers;
2. Senate President Troy Jackson and Speaker Ryan Fecteau’s COVID-19 Patient Bill of Rights, ensuring that COVID-19 screening, testing, and immunization from state-regulated health insurance companies is FREE to patients; and
3. Assistant Majority Leader Rachel Talbot Ross’s bill that creates a process for state legislation to be assessed for its racial impact.
