Congress Approves $1.9 Trillion 'American Rescue Plan' – Includes Abortion Funding

By: Jeff Johnston

The House voted to pass the "American Rescue Plan Act of 2021," by a vote of 220 to 211. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki called the 628-page, $1.9 trillion spending bill "one of the most consequential and most progressive pieces of legislation in American history."

Psaki went on to say that the COVOD-19 relief plan, HR 1319, "will give us the tools and resources we need to crush this virus." She said the bill would send "$1,400 checks to 158.5 million Americans" and that a "family of four making $100,000 will get $5,600 in direct checks, lifting 11 million people out of poverty and cutting child poverty in half this year, including through a historic expansion of the child tax credit that will benefit 66 million kids across the country."

As previously reported by The Daily Citizen, the measure does not include the Hyde Amendment, which keeps taxpayer money from funding abortions. In a blog about the bill's passage, Focus on the Family President Jim Daly asked why the bill was funding the killing of babies in the womb, an issue Christians care deeply about.

He said, "The outrageous and unconscionable use of taxpayer dollars for the destruction of life both maddens and saddens my heart. As I have said over this past year, how the same individuals who understandably lament the loss of life to the virus can celebrate and support the destruction of innocent pre-born life is beyond me."

Utah Passes Bill
Utah Passes Bill to Protect Children from Pornography on Tablets and Smartphones
By: Jeff Johnston

The Utah State Legislature passed a bill that requires tablets and smartphones sold in the state to automatically enable a filter to block "material that is harmful to minors." House Bill 72, which had already been passed by the House, was approved in the Senate by a vote of 19 to 6, with 4 senators absent or not voting.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that even supporters of HB 72 acknowledged that the bill is far from perfect. For example, other states will have to join in to protect children, as the measure specifies that it will only take effect after at least five other states pass similar laws "and the enactments by the states have taken effect in each state."

Arkansas Challenges Roe
Arkansas Challenges 'Roe,' Signs Near Total Abortion Ban into Law
By: Brittany Raymer

On March 9, the governor of Arkansas signed into law a bill that will essentially ban all abortions. The state joins several others in trying to pass legislation that will hopefully challenge the foundations of Roe v. Wade.

Senate Bill 6 was designed to "abolish abortion in Arkansas and protect the lives of unborn children; to protect all human life; and for other purposes." The bill goes on to state that "it is time for the United States Supreme Court to redress and correct the grave injustice and the crime against humanity which is being perpetuated by its decisions in Roe v. Wade, Doe v. Bolton, and Planned Parenthood v. Casey." (author's emphasis)

Advocating for the Family
Is Advocating for the Mother/Father Family Bigoted?
By: Glenn T. Stanton

As organizations like Bethany Christian Services, one of the largest and longest operating adoption agencies in the world, succumb to legal pressure by gender activists to place babies whose primary human need is a loving, nurturing mother and father into inherently motherless and fatherless families (i.e.. same-sex), we must confront and reject the accusation that favoring one family form over all other options in public life is bigoted and unfair. For that is precisely what is at work here: an emotion-laden claim to "fairness" is being employed to demand that no particular form of family configuration is valued over another in terms of well-being outcomes.

Focus on the Family is of the deep and long conviction that some family forms indeed do a better job than others at providing the things children and society need for healthy development. Therefore, some family types should be favored and encouraged over others when it comes to public policy and personal life choices.

Mike Pence to Narrate
Mike Pence to Narrate Docuseries on Rush Limbaugh
By: Bruce Hausknecht

Former Vice President Mike Pence will narrate a docuseries on the career of Rush Limbaugh to be aired on the Fox Nation streaming channel beginning March 10. Limbaugh, who died on February 17 at age 70 of lung cancer, told his listening audience during his last year of life that he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Pence, also a Christian and a former talk radio host as well, has been heavily influenced by Limbaugh's 32-year career, and is the perfect choice for narrator.

"Age of Rush" is the title of the series, which will feature interviews with Limbaugh's producer James Golden, aka "Bo Snerdley," as well as Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Brian Kilmeade, Mark Steyn and Larry Elder, and Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer, MediaBuzz host Howard Kurtz and Fox contributor Newt Gingrich.
