As this unprecedented health and economic crisis reaches the one-year mark, it’s time for us to reflect — and to look forward.

Over the past 12 months, so many of you have made difficult but necessary sacrifices. We’ve changed our routines, faced economic and personal hardships, and struggled. But now there’s good news: President Biden just signed the American Rescue Plan.

That means help is on the way: economic relief for our families, especially for those who are out of work and struggling to put food on the table and stay in their homes; a huge infusion of resources to crush the pandemic by quickly meeting our vaccination before new COVID variants can set us back; critical support to help schools safely reopen; help for local and tribal governments to weather extreme budget shortfalls and maintain essential services; and more grants and loans to help small businesses stay afloat until the economy fully revives.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris made all of this possible. Will you sign my card thanking them for all this work to help the American people?

With vaccinations and testing capacity ramping up quickly, there’s even more good news: if we stay diligent for just a couple more months, there’s reason to believe we can return to normal this summer.

John, all of this progress and the new hope we’re feeling about bringing this pandemic under control — it didn’t just magically happen. The Biden administration has been focused like a laser beam on transforming our national response to the COVID pandemic, and my congressional colleagues and I worked tirelessly for the past two months to finalize the American Rescue Plan and get it to President Biden’s desk.

It’s a comprehensive package that delivers help to those who need it most and need it now. And it’s big, because we know how much people are struggling. This is what it takes to crush the pandemic and drive a full economic recovery.

I am so grateful for the sense of community I see all over our district, and the broad support for the American Rescue Plan. Thank you for looking out for each other and protecting all of us by continuing to follow the CDC’s COVID-19 guidelines. We’re getting through this together, and we will build back stronger thanks to new leadership in Washington.
