Yesterday President Biden signed into law one of the largest and most expansive relief bills in our history, the
American Rescue Plan. I’m proud to report that help is on the way for every American — including those in NJ-5.
Our community has been hit hard by COVID-19, and a year after most of the country went into lockdown, we’re still dealing with the fallout of this deadly disease. No aspect of our community has gone untouched, but there is hope: this bill will make a positive impact on everyone.
Here are the toplines of the American Rescue Plan:
- Direct payments of $1,400 (including adult dependents like college students who’ve been left out of other payments),
- An extra $300/week in unemployment until September,
- Child poverty will be cut in half with monthly child allowances,
- Direct funding to schools to help teachers and students to get back to school safely,
- Boost in economic help for small businesses right here in our community,
- A dramatic increase of testing and vaccine accessibility.
I specifically fought for dedicated local investment in broadband and internet, strike teams to help nursing homes manage COVID outbreaks, and tax cuts for the unemployed. These measures will contain the virus and get our economy moving again ASAP.
Overall, this law will help bolster our community and national economy while giving families the security they need to put food on the table and keep roofs over their heads. But I want to emphasize this:
this bill is just the beginning.
The entire New Jersey delegation will not stop working on your behalf.
The American Rescue Plan is our first step to recovery — but if anyone can get it done, it’s NJ-5.
I hope you and your family are well.
Yours,
Josh
