I’ll keep this brief so I don’t get too snarky.
On Wednesday — just hours after passage of the American Rescue Plan — Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi touted how the historic COVID relief legislation would help restaurant owners in the Magnolia State.
Except Wicker — like every other Republican in both the House and Senate — voted against the American Rescue Plan!
Here’s where things stand right now:
- One of the two major parties in this country — the Republican Party — has no actual platform. (Literally. Republicans didn’t adopt a platform in 2020, instead endorsing Donald Trump’s “America First” agenda.)
- It welcomed and colluded with the corrupt, criminal presidency of Donald Trump. Over and over again.
- It whines relentlessly about cultural change while fomenting and exploiting racism in a blatant ploy to retain power undemocratically.
- It repeatedly chooses petty, spiteful, pointless partisanship over helping the American people — even its own supporters.
- And now its leaders are resorting to trying to take credit for historic, popular laws they opposed in a pathetic ruse to appear relevant and responsive to their constituents.
Tell Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker:
You are fooling exactly nobody. The American people see right through your pathetic attempt to take credit for assistance to small businesses in the American Rescue Plan that you voted against. Why don’t you try passing helpful legislation (your state capital, Jackson, has been dealing with a water crisis for over three weeks) instead of falsely taking credit for real work done by your colleagues?
Add your name.
Thanks for taking action.

P.S. For half a century, Public Citizen has been advancing policies that put the needs of everyday Americans before the greed of billionaires and Big Business. That legacy of progress and that ongoing work could not matter more right now, as our nation transitions to a Joe Biden presidency that will be as progressive as we — you and Public Citizen, together — make it. We’re also busy undoing all the damage Trump did. And, like so many nonprofits and small businesses, we continue to experience financial strain related to the coronavirus pandemic. If you can, please make an emergency donation today to support the critical work we’re doing together or even join our popular Monthly Giving program. Thank you.
