Hi there,
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is thrilled after Cori Bush's amendment to include incarcerated Americans in H.R. 1., the For the People Act, which would protect voting rights and restore our democracy.
“I'm celebrating big,” Greene told a reporter with the Spectator, referring to the moment she used a procedural tool to stop Bush's amendment. “I'm really happy because even though they're trying to push me small, I refuse to do that.”
Greene isn't just a conspiracy theorist or a Trump loyalist. She's also repeatedly singled out leaders of color like Bush -- from targeting Bush on social media to berating her in the hallway. To Greene, anything that leaders of color like Cori Bush do -- especially efforts to expand voting rights to more people of color -- is “radical.”
Women of color leaders like Cori Bush are standing up to racist GOP members like Greene, and having the most diverse Congress in history is one of the main reasons other voting rights reforms have been able to advance.
But Greene has racist donors cheering her on to attack leaders like Cori Bush and efforts to empower voters of color, which is why it's been so hard to pass reforms like H.R. 1 at all, even without Bush's amendment.
We know you care about ensuring that everyone -- especially those who have been historically marginalized -- gets to make their voices heard in our democracy. We're so lucky to have caring grassroots supporters like you, and as we're falling behind in fundraising, we're really counting on you to help make up our $4,267 budget shortfall by the end of this week.
