Dear John,
At the Texas Campaign, we believe that advocacy matters.
Advocacy is one of the core strategies we use to empower young people to make healthy choices for their bodies and their futures. Through advocacy, we can shape the way that teens can access the information and the healthcare they need, creating an enormous potential for change. Advocacy is a critical component of our work - but in organizations like ours it largely goes unfunded.
Over the next few months, we will bring attention to the various priorities we have identified in the Texas legislature, raise funds to support our work, and train advocates to speak out. This is certainly an unusual session filled with challenges, but we are steadfast in our commitment to improving adolescent healthcare.
The three policy priorities the Action Drive will focus on are:
- Adding contraception as a covered benefit in the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP;
- Letting teen mothers consent to birth control; and
- Defending the newly adopted Sex Ed curriculum standards.
In coming emails, we will describe each priority or bill in more detail, and show how it will positively impact youth. Today is the last day to file legislation - so even in this crazy time, advocacy work is impacting the lives of millions of adolescents. Your support is crucial to this work. Please consider a gift to help move these important priorities forward!
In gratitude,
Julia Kranzthor, Development Director
