John,
What a few weeks it has been. Here is a rundown of what I have been up to:

COVID-19 relief passed through Congress – The American Rescue Plan includes funding for vaccine distribution and testing and help for state and local governments. The legislation provides another round of stimulus checks, enhanced federal unemployment benefits, and badly needed resources to reopen our schools safely. This legislation also includes provisions from my Save Education Jobs Act, which will place critical guardrails to ensure education funding is spent properly.

Committee Assignments – I was named Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Nutrition, Oversight, and Department Operations. Since my first days in Congress, I have focused on ensuring food security for all Americans by maintaining programs like SNAP, WIC, and school lunch. Now, I am honored to lead the subcommittee that sets the policies and legislation relating to nutrition and food security and put anti-hunger initiatives at the center of the national COVID-19 response and agricultural policy.

Education and Labor Committee – Guided by my conscience, I led the push to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from the Education and Labor Committee. Her conspiracy theories about school shootings have done incredible harm to so many families here in the 5th District – and I felt strongly that she should not be seated on the committee with direct authority over these matters.

As you can imagine, my efforts here have made me a prime target for GOP attacks.

In fact, I was recently named by the National Republican Congressional Committee as a target in their 2022 plan to regain control of the House. The American Action Network has also made early investments in robocalls against me. With Democrats in control of the White House, House and Senate, Republicans will go all out to gain any seats they can in 2022. CT-05 was already on their radar, but now it’s personal for them.

CT-05 has already been added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Frontline list, because it is one of the most critical races in this election cycle. The good news is, I am up for the challenge, because I know what I’m fighting for. When you stand for something – instead of simply being against things – change happens.

I will need your help to hold on to this seat. We are building a robust infrastructure to win again in 2022, but we need your early support to guarantee that victory.

Join our people-powered movement today. With your help, we will overcome anything that is thrown our way this cycle. [[link removed]]

Thank you for everything,

– Jahana
