Breaking Barriers

For too long, there were barriers for young women in this country in pursuit of their dreams. But thanks to the determination of so many strong women – from the suffragettes to our female trailblazers of today – barriers continue to be broken.

Today, there are over 140 women serving in Congress—more than ever before in U.S. history.

Just six years after being elected to the U.S. Senate as the first female combat veteran and first woman to represent Iowa in Congress, women make up a majority of Iowa’s congressional delegation.

On this International Women’s Day, throughout Women’s History Month, and every day, I’m so proud to recognize the incredible accomplishments of women in Iowa and throughout America’s history.

As always, I’m encouraging young women to continue pursuing their dreams through hard work and determination.
