As Democrats, we have a lot to be proud of right now. Joe Biden just signed the American Rescue Plan -- a historic COVID relief package to support families and provide economic relief for Americans.

Here are just some of the things this major legislation will accomplish:

Provide $1,400 stimulus checks to most Americans and extend unemployment benefits.
Huge increase in funding for vaccine production and equitable distribution to end the pandemic more quickly.
Reduces child poverty and lifts more than 11 million people out of poverty.
Major investments in essential resources like housing, child care, and food access that will lift millions out of poverty.

But despite wide-ranging support for this package, every single Republican in Congress voted against it.

While we’re thrilled with this accomplishment, we can’t get complacent and let our guard down, John. Our majorities in both chambers of Congress are slim right now. Republicans are already targeting our victories in California and we can’t let them take a single inch when we’ve already made so much tangible progress for California’s working families.

If the GOP makes any gains this election cycle, they will undoubtedly undo all the progress we’ve already accomplished -- we can’t let that happen.
