Dear John,
New York City is facing a turning point in its history -- and needs bold, progressive leadership in city government to emerge from this crisis stronger and fairer than before.
That’s why I’m proud to endorse Brad Lander for New York City Comptroller.
Brad is building a campaign from the grassroots level — and he can’t do it alone. Tonight’s the biggest fundraising deadline of the race so far. If you’re able to make a donation right now, please chip in $5 or whatever you can to support Brad.
It’s clear: The coronavirus pandemic has widened the gaps in our economy between the rich and powerful and everyone else.
So when COVID-19 hit New York City, Brad Lander got to work and led the fight to demand rights and protections for essential workers in the City Council. I was proud to join him and workers in delivery, sanitation, and grocery stores last May to fight for paid sick leave, whistleblower protections, and hazard pay.
The leadership Brad showed in the fight for an Essential Workers Bill of Rights was no surprise. Throughout his time as a Council Member, Brad has been a consistent champion for workers and those left behind by our economy.
He passed the first-ever law in the country to guarantee a minimum wage for Uber and Lyft drivers. He organized his colleagues to pass paid sick leave over Mayor Bloomberg’s veto. He fought to win a $15 minimum wage, fair schedules, and just-cause protections against unfair firings for fast food workers.
Brad is an innovative policymaker who sweats the details and doesn’t back down from a fight for what’s right. He will bring the leadership NYC needs to secure a just recovery from this pandemic and rebuild a far more fair economy.
Thank you,
Elizabeth
