One year later, with 500,000 Americans dead, millions of jobs lost, and an economy in crisis, the facts are clear: Dr. Fauci was right.

A catastrophe like this happens once in a generation, John — and our leaders had to act. We needed big, bold, and targeted relief to make sure all families could get through these incredibly tough times — and that’s why I made it my mission to ensure the American Rescue Plan of 2021 was passed — and we did just that.

The American Rescue Plan is one of my proudest accomplishments as Chair of the House Oversight Committee. It guarantees $100 billion in aid to New York, $12 billion to safely reopen our schools and get our children back in the classroom, billions more for our hardest hit businesses like restaurants and performing arts venues.

And we did all this while fending off relentless attacks from partisans who wanted this bill to fail — I experienced this firsthand when I defended this groundbreaking bill from attack after attack in the Oversight Committee, voting down countless amendments designed to hamstring our relief efforts.

But we still got it done — and I’m so proud that this bill will soon be signed into law by President Biden. $1,400 checks for taxpayers and their dependents, aid for state and local governments, billions for vaccination infrastructure: the American Rescue Plan is an absolute good.

One year ago, the worst was yet to come. But today, the future is bright. We banded together and made a difference. On behalf of my entire team, thank you for standing with us every step of the way.
