John,
Last weekend, I joined Reps. Cori Bush, Andy Levin, Terri Sewell and Nikema Williams in Bessemer, Alabama to stand in solidarity with the Amazon workers who are fighting for a voice and better conditions in their workplace.
As we speak, 5,800 workers at the Amazon fulfillment center, responsible for packaging and shipping orders to customers across the South, are taking collective action to vote on forming the first-ever labor union to represent Amazon employees with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).
The unfortunate truth is that our capitalist society has been built on inhumanity and profit-driven decisions at the expense of the health and safety of workers. That’s why I joined this courageous collective of individuals to not only fight for the humanity of essential workers, but for the humanity of workers across the country.
John, please stand in solidarity with these essential workers in their fight for the right to organize and bring critical improvements to the workplace by adding your name in support of their fight to unionize.

Amazon has created a plantation-style work environment that’s abusive — and this needs to end. We need employers and leadership to treat workers like human beings, not disposable robots.
Workers have been denied rest and bathroom breaks, and have suffered serious injury due to ruthless, timed productivity quotas. When workers at the Bessemer Amazon facility contracted COVID-19, the company was more focused on getting workers back on the floor than the safety and health of their employees. Meanwhile, Amazon’s profits have almost doubled since the start of the pandemic and they’ve allocated a large portion of those profits on union-busting tactics to dissuade workers from coming together.
Amazon knows that workers organizing to protect their rights and well-being is a threat to its business model which depends on the endless exploitation and abuse of its labor force. Through unionizing, these workers can fight for critical protections such as hazard pay, a livable wage, health care, and much more.
I am so proud to fight alongside these Amazon workers as they take the first steps towards ending the injustices that plague our workplaces. Their courageous actions show us that we don’t have to settle for an economy that treats workers as expendable. And any progress that is made in this historic moment, has the power to shift the scales of power and allow for a safe, more inclusive working environment.
Whether Amazon likes it or not, the time for racial and economic justice is now. Will you show support for these Alabama Amazon workers and add your name in support of their efforts?
Thank you for fighting with me,
Jamaal Bowman
