The Chance to End Fracking

Friend,

Last week, we told you about unfortunate defeat of Assembly Bill 345 in 2020, and how that bill was directly connected to Big Oil’s influence in Sacramento. Every single legislator who voted against the bill accepted oil money.

But it’s a new year. And the legislature has the opportunity to make it right, with Senate Bill 467, the End Fracking and Harmful Drilling Act. Not only does this bill reintroduce the safety buffer between oil and gas production and our communities that AB 345 tried to establish, it would also ban fracking and other dangerous oil production practices.

This is where your financial support is so important to CLCV. In order to organize, mobilize and effectively lobby around SB 467, we rely on your generous donations. We couldn’t help pass vital legislation without you.

With over 5 million Californians - predominantly people of color - living within a mile of oil and gas extraction, it is imperative we pass SB 467. Fracking poses serious threats to air and water quality in the surrounding communities, as well as risks of gas leaks and oil spills. Living near these operations are linked with a host of health problems, including asthma, pre-term births, and cancer. Everyone deserves the right to breathe clean air and work in healthy environments. Creating health and safety buffer zones will bring us closer to protecting children and families from the hazards of living near dangerous oil and gas sites.

Help us ensure this important legislation becomes law. A generous gift of $25 to CLCV gives us the resources we need to combat Big Oil’s influence in Sacramento.

We have the opportunity to improve the lives of millions of Californians. We hope you’ll join us in this fight.

Sincerely,

Sean Mc Manus
