Help people in fragile places around the world protect themselves against COVID‑19 and other crises: Make a gift and help us meet our goal of $35,000 by midnight tomorrow ▸ Give now

Dear Friend,

Tomorrow will mark one year since the World Health Organization declared COVID‑19 a pandemic. This past year has been difficult for everyone, including members of our global community like you. The development of effective COVID‑19 vaccines means we are one step closer to ending the pandemic — but we still collectively face a defining challenge: Getting the vaccine to our world’s most vulnerable populations.

In dozens of lower-income countries, only one in 10 people can hope to receive a vaccine by the end of 2021. This is nowhere near enough to contain the spread of the virus. In contrast, wealthy nations have bought enough COVID‑19 vaccine doses to vaccinate their entire populations three times over by the end of 2021.

Mercy Corps and the global aid sector have a critical role to play in the global COVID‑19 vaccination effort, particularly when it comes to battling misinformation and supporting access to hard-to-reach populations. This is especially true when it comes to reaching vulnerable communities mired by conflict and poverty — those likely to be among the last to receive vaccines.

To help fuel this effort, as well as Mercy Corps’ other lifesaving work around the world, we’ve set a goal to raise $35,000 by midnight tomorrow. Will you help us get a jumpstart on reaching this goal by making your gift today?

In Somalia, we’re training and supporting Community Health Workers who conduct COVID‑19 information and awareness campaigns in their communities.

Transporting and distributing vaccines around the world will create a massive logistical challenge, but that’s just part of the equation: Mass vaccination will also require a coordinated, collaborative effort to build trust in the vaccine and the governments who will provide it.

In the 40+ countries where we work and in the communities where we’ve spent decades building trust and relationships, Mercy Corps can play a central role in helping to combat misinformation and vaccine hesitancy, and to build trust between vulnerable people and their public health systems.

Your gift today could help Mercy Corps support the global vaccination effort by:

Mobilizing existing networks to educate their peers on COVID‑19 prevention in places like Liberia and the DRC, where we previously trained 15,000+ community messengers to combat Ebola misinformation.

Recruiting "truth champions" in places like Nigeria, where local leaders are responding to rumors about COVID‑19 with accurate information

Meeting people where they are in places like Haiti and Colombia, Puerto Rico and Iraq — via text or voicemail messages, social media campaigns or in person at local community centers — to empower them with the facts they need to make informed decisions about protecting their health.

Even as we focus on building trust in the vaccines, we will continue to help people stop the spread of the disease, with handwashing stations, hygiene kits, sanitation training and public education to promote day-to-day safety. It takes all of us coming together — from supporters like you to the communities we partner with — to make these lifesaving efforts possible.

Make your gift today and help us meet our important $35,000 fundraising goal by midnight tomorrow ▸

Thank you for partnering with Mercy Corps to create a brighter future for everyone.

With gratitude,

Craig Redmond
Senior Vice President of Mercy Corps Programs
