Dear John:
The House just voted to pass President Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
The American Rescue Plan is an urgent package designed to crush the virus, get more vaccines to more Americans, and help individuals, families, small businesses and communities with the impact of the pandemic.
Here’s what's in the plan heading to President Biden’s desk:
- Direct help to working americans through stimulus payments, extended unemployment assistance, increasing health care access and affordability, housing and food assistance and a historic expansion in the child tax credits
- More than $20 billion to dramatically scale-up vaccination efforts to get more shots in more arms faster
- Nearly $130 billion to help our schools get kids back in the classroom
- Increasing support for hard-hit small businesses and restaurants weathering the economic fallout of the pandemic
- Infusing $350 billion to states, cities and towns across the country to preserve critical front-line jobs like police, fire and medical personnel and prevent local tax increases.
There’s more to unpack from this package but the goal is simple and clear - to get our country past the virus and get life back to normal as quickly as we can.
I’m proud to have done my part to craft and pass this bill - and will be working hard over the coming weeks to get these resources out to eastern Connecticut as quickly as possible.
