We just passed H.R. 8 through the House. It once again had bipartisan support, and that’s because of the work our movement has done to fundamentally change the debate in Washington.

A few years ago, members of Congress from both parties were afraid of the gun lobby and refused to take action to prevent gun violence. Now, our ideas have overwhelming bipartisan support, and 97% of Americans agree that we need universal background checks.

Now our bill is headed to the Senate once again. Two years ago, Mitch McConnell refused to allow a debate — let alone a vote — on this bill.

But now Democrats have a majority in the Senate, and it’s time that we demand they pass this bill. Joe Biden has pledged to sign this bill as soon as it reaches his desk.

Universal background checks will save lives. It is a critical first step in our fight to end gun violence. So the Senate must act now. We cannot wait and allow more precious lives to be lost.

Will you please sign my petition today to tell the Senate to pass universal background checks at once? Senators should not be so numb to this violent epidemic that only a mass tragedy compels them to act.
