Did you see this tweet from Hillary Clinton, friend? Our co-founder Jesse Lehrich co-authored an article for MedPage Today with Dr. Joseph V. Sakran about the dangers of online misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine:

“Social media algorithms actively boosted COVID-19 conspiracy content marked as false, according to a study by @onwardtogether partner @accountabletech. Misinformation is another deadly epidemic we need to get smart about combating.”

As Jesse and Dr. Sakran outlined in the article, “an Accountable Tech study found [Facebook’s] algorithms actively boosted COVID-19 content already marked as false , including claims that masks are ‘mind control devices,’ vaccines will cause autism, and the virus was created by Bill Gates so that he could profit from a vaccine.”

Even worse, “both Facebook and YouTube have ignored warnings from their own researchers that their algorithms boost extremist content to keep users engaged.” Why would they do that? Maybe it’s because “one report found anti-vaxxers' followers alone are worth an estimated $1 billion to tech companies .”

Big Tech’s negligence has had deadly consequences: “Localities exposed to content downplaying the pandemic saw more cases and deaths because residents ignored public health precautions.”

We’re working around the clock to hold Big Tech accountable for their actions, but we need your help to spread awareness. Help us out by sharing Jesse’s article on Facebook or Twitter now:
