Big Oil is trying to tank Deb Haaland's confirmation.
According to the Guardian, Sen. John Barrasso, who has received “nearly $1.2 million from the oil and gas industry” during his time in the Senate, called Haaland “radical.” Sen. Bill Cassidy, who accepted nearly $1.7 million during his Senate career, blasted Haaland during her hearing for what he called “a prejudice against fossil fuel.”
As a Native American woman leader, Haaland has never backed down from challenging the oil industry or their racist GOP allies. She's a fierce activist who joined protests against the Dakota Access pipeline and a skilled lawmaker who managed to safeguard sacred lands from Trump's attempts to permit oil drilling there -- which is why President Biden wants her to serve as Secretary of the Interior.
If the winter storms that devastated Texas have shown us anything, it's that we desperately need more diverse, courageous leaders who govern with compassion.
