On March 18, 2020, Wisconsin K-12 schools were forced to close their doors and switch to virtual learning. Over the next 12 months, school leaders worked to navigate local and state mandates while balancing student education and safety.

Bradley Freedom Fellow, Shannon Whitworth, takes on Milwaukee Public Schools and the Milwaukee political establishment for failing to prioritize in-person learning for Milwaukee students. Whitworth emphasizes that this failure, once again, emphasizes the critical importance of school choice.

WILL filed a Notice of Claim with the City of Madison on behalf of four real estate, development, and building associations warning that the City’s new mandatory bird-safe glass ordinance is preempted by state law. The Notice of Claim warns Madison that a lawsuit is forthcoming because the new city ordinance undermines and violates Wisconsin’s uniform building code.

Governor Evers’ budget proposal represents a laundry list of new spending and pet projects that will make the state of Wisconsin less competitive for business and limit individual freedom on issues as diverse as healthcare and education. In short, it is not a path forward for the state as we look to emerge from the devastating impact of the pandemic across the economy.
