It’s officially been a year since our lives were uprooted and we all started to stay home to protect our families, our friends, and our community.
The United States has recorded over 29.1 million cases and 525,000 deaths. We’ve suffered greatly throughout the pandemic and while Congress has taken steps to crush the virus and rebuild the economy, more help is needed. With President Biden’s COVID-19 relief package, many will receive the relief they so desperately need, including more access to vaccines.
Here are just a few ways the relief package will help:
- It will increase funding for vaccine distribution, testing, and will aid in hiring more public health workers to support response to the pandemic.
- It will provide funding to schools so they can provide ventilation systems, buy PPE, reduce class sizes, and prevent teacher layoffs in the coming year.
- It will increase funding for State and Local government along with Native Tribes. This will help aid firefighters as we head into wildfire season and will increase funding for business assistance.
- State and local governments would receive housing aid to cover rent assistance, utility assistance, mortgage payment assistance, homeless services and support, and much more.
- It will extend crucial pandemic unemployment programs through the end of August. Currently, these programs are scheduled to end in less than a month.
I can’t thank you all enough for doing your part. I know this year has been hard, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

I know it feels as though this process is slow, but please know that my colleagues and I are working tirelessly to increase access to the vaccinations and help increase relief as quickly as possible.
We still have a lot of work to do, but the end of this dark tunnel is near.
