It’s been a year since the coronavirus transformed our daily lives. We all know we need to get our economy back on track and start building back our country better and stronger than before. We need to get the spread of the virus under control, get Americans safely back to work, and get kids safely back into the classroom.

The American Rescue Plan provides a road map for making that happen and secures the resources for recovery:

• Gets vaccines in people’s arms by increasing and improving distribution and administration
• Sends direct payments to American families’ pockets
• Gives funding to schools to help them safely reopen and to help students who have fallen behind catch up
• Extends unemployment benefits for workers who lost their jobs in the wake of the pandemic
• Secures additional funding for grants and the PPP loan program to help small businesses and non-profits keep their doors open
• Provides funding for state and local governments whose local economies have been upended by the pandemic

And I personally fought for key provisions to address the environmental issues linked to the pandemic.

Pollution poses added risks to people suffering from COVID-19, and communities exposed to higher air pollution have been among the hardest hit by the coronavirus. The American Rescue Plan includes funding to help reduce pollution harming communities -- especially low-income communities and communities of color that are disproportionately impacted by pollution and this virus -- as well as funding to help prevent future pandemics.

This is what’s possible when we elect leaders who are committed to making a meaningful difference in Americans’ lives.
