Hi John,

The For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act would combat the GOP's rampant voter suppression tactics in battleground states like Georgia -- and everyone from Joe Biden to Stacey Abrams is calling on Congress to immediately pass both.

But there are a few things standing in the way, John: Mitch McConnell, Senate Republicans, and their trusty Jim Crow relic -- the Senate filibuster.

Republicans have used the filibuster to block progressive legislation for decades, and now McConnell is signalling he'll use it again to block any voting rights legislation Democrats put forward. The good news? VP Kamala Harris now has the power to eliminate the filibuster.

You know as well as we do that our democracy is riding on the swift passage of these voting rights bills. Senator Elizabeth Warren made the stakes clear: “Unless we take action in Washington to ensure the right to vote, states will keep passing racist voter suppression laws. We need to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. If that means ending the filibuster, so be it.”

A Senate majority means nothing if Republicans can continue to manipulate the rules to block legislation and rig elections in their favor. If we don't act now, the GOP will steal their way back to the majority in 2022. McConnell claims the American people are behind him for the sake of “precedent” -- so we're reaching out to our most committed supporters to try to prove him wrong. That's why we need 100 people to tell us if McConnell is right by tonight:

John, should Kamala Harris and Democrats eliminate the Senate filibuster?
