Team,
Imagine going to your doctor or hospital only to find out your insurance company refuses to pay for your medical care because it “violates their conscience.”
That’s exactly what Kentucky’s Republicans are going to accomplish if they pass Senate Bill 83.
This proposal would make it legal for “healthcare providers” - ranging from hospitals and insurance companies, to doctors, nurses, and even med students - to discriminate against patients for any claimed reason of conscience.
Kentuckians deserve medical care without judgement. So let’s act: Share your name in opposition to SB 83.
The far-right is targeting transgender people. But they aren’t the only people in danger. Under this bill, anyone can be discriminated against because of their provider’s personal beliefs and individual prejudices.
A patient seeking treatment for Hepatitis C could be denied care by a doctor who is upset by their drug use. An unmarried woman seeking birth control could find their pharmacist unwilling to provide it.
Prejudice should have no place in determining whether or not you receive medical care.
We need to stand up for our right to receive healthcare, and stand in solidarity with the people most at-risk of being denied. Can I count on you to add your name to stand against SB 83?
We can do this together,
Morgan
