I served in the Army in Iraq. My father was a champion military marksman. I am no stranger to firearms and I will always defend the Constitution, including the Second Amendment — but we need reasonable restrictions on gun ownership in order to keep our communities safe.
That’s why I am proud to report that this week, we introduced a new bill in Congress which would mandate universal background checks for firearm purchases.
This is our chance to make serious progress on gun violence. But this bill will only pass if all of us speak out loudly in support — so I am asking:
The bottom line is background checks save lives. That’s why 90% of Americans support them and want to see Congress pass this legislation.
People are sick and tired of waking up to news about another mass shooting, reading about gun violence in their communities and even worrying about sending their kids back to in-person school.
