Dear John, The Covid-19 pandemic has led to the permanent shuttering of many small businesses. Currently, small businesses across the nation that are set in re-designated HUBZones will be forced to move at the end of the year unless Congress acts now. Congress must extend the benefits of HUBZone redesignation for small businesses through calendar year 2025.
The American Sustainable Business Council urges Congress to extend the benefits of HUBZone re-designation or allow these companies to have the same benefits after the 2020 census. Companies in all other HUBZone census tracts will remain eligible for up to 10 years because of their long-term leases or building ownership. Congress must extend these benefits to companies in re-designated HUBZone census tracts and we call specifically on Congressman Wittman to utilize his role to include this extension in the Chairman mark.
Extending HUBZone benefits will tremendously help small businesses. These small businesses would not have to worry about moving their companies. The financial burdens associated with making such a move during a pandemic would only exacerbate the financial difficulties caused by Covid-19. ASBC will continue to support the voices of SME’s affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Congress has a responsibility to SME’s across the nation to extend the benefits of HUBZone redesignation through calendar year 2025. To make your voice heard, please join our sign-on letter to send to your legislators.
